Tokyo Marathon 1MILEs 2020
Each year, the Tokyo Marathon Foundation hosts a variety of events leading up to the main event – the Tokyo Marathon. In the past, the Friendship Run and Family Run have been popular among Tokyo Marathon participants and runners in general. Starting in 2020, the spotlight will be shared with the Tokyo Marathon 1MILEs 2020.
The 1MILEs event gives children and adults the opportunity to run on the warm-up track of the National Stadium, which will be a central hosting venue for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Held in collaboration with the Japanese Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF), the 1 MILEs is approximately 1.6KM long and designed for family and friends to enjoy a short-distance fun run.
The Tokyo Marathon 2020 1MILEs will be held the day before the Tokyo Marathon, February 29 (Saturday) at 12:00PM.
February 29, 2020 (Saturday)
1-mile time trial: 350 people
4x400m relay: 7 teams
4×1 mile relay: 27 teams
1-mile time trial: middle school or older, capable of completing 1 mile (1600m) in under 10 minutes.
4x400m relay: elementary school (4th-6th grade)
4×1 mile relay: middle school or older
1 mile time trial: ¥4,000
4x400m Relay: ¥4,000/team
4×1 mile Relay: ¥8,000/team

Bring Back The Mile
In most parts of the world, the mile is somewhat of a mysterious distance. Where the metric system reigns, the mention of a “mile” or “miles” may invoke quizzical expressions. Put bluntly, the mile has become a forgotten distance – except maybe for those who grew up in the United States…and especially those who remember the Presidential Fitness Test.
Whether it’s used to measure the distance from one location to another or references the distance of a race, the mile Then there are those like the “Bring Back the Mile“, an organization devoted to getting the mile back into the game.
At a glance, you might think that running a longer distance would be better for your health than running a shorter distance. More is better, right?
It’s no secret that training for a marathon takes a lot of dedication and time. Whereas training is essential to even completing the race, training for a mile is far less time-intensive and isn’t nearly as strenuous an endeavor.
However, the science suggests that running and training for a one-mile competition can help maintain muscle mass while also increasing stamina.
Of course, one is also less likely to get injured training for a mile race than running tens of miles a week training for a marathon. And, in the busy world we live in, there’s increased interest in quick, efficient workouts.
The average, 160-pound man will burn about 120 calories during a mile, regardless of how fast he runs. So as you train and decrease your time, you’ll be increasing your training efficiency. In other words, you’ll be able to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time.
Perhaps it’s no surprise then that the number of one-mile races have increased in recent years. In fact, a couple of days a week is all you need to see drastic improvements.
So there you have it. The mile is an ideal distance for people of all athletic abilities – and it doesn’t take up a lot of time. It’s time to bring back the mile. Why not start at the Tokyo Marathon 2020 1MILEs?

Hosted by Bank of America, the Shamrock Shuffle is a celebration of running in Chicago. The event kicks off the spring running season with a 1 mile, 2 mile walk, and 8 mile course. There is also a post-race party and after party.
Bloomberg Square Mile Relay
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a 10-person relay race that takes place in 12 of the most vibrant financial cities in the world. The mile course runs through the center of each city’s financial district. There is also an after-party following the race.
Vitality Westminster Mile
Starting from the Mall and finishing at Buckingham Palace, the Vitality Westminster Mile is held in one of the most famous places in the world. The Mile was first started in 2013 following the 2012 London Olympics.
New Balance 5th Ave. Mile
Bringing in more than 9,000 runners, the 5th Avenue Mile is held in New York and runs 20 blocks of Manhattan. The race offers special heats, including wheelchair, hand-cycle, and youth.
Kalakaua Merrie Mile
Named after King Kalalaua, who was known as the “Merrie Monarch”, this mile runs through Waikiki’s shopping district. Edward Cheserek won his third title in 2019, with a record time of 3 minute 54 second.

1 Mile Training
With the goal of increasing your mile time, here is a simple training schedule that will help you improve. This is a three day training program consisting of a speed day, one long interval day, and a recovery day.
Warm-up jog 1 mile
Run 4 400-meter intervals with 90 seconds rest
Run 2 200-meter intervals with 90 seconds rest
Cool down jog 1/2 mile
Run 2 800-meter intervals with 2 minutes rest
30-40 minute run
