About the Event

Nestled deep within Joshinetsu National Park, Shiga Kogen sets the stage for the Shiga Kogen Extreme Trail! Everyone starts at around 1,300 meters and climbs to as high as 2,300 meters where the air is thin and the temperatures remain chilly year-round. Don’t miss this awe-inspiring experience to admire local outdoor highlights and reconnect with nature! Whether you’re a novice or a veteran, trail runners of all levels will appreciate the unique challenges that await at the Shiga Kogen Extreme Trail.

Highlights
・Beginners welcome! Step into the trail running world with the 8KM course! Intermediate and advanced runners can challenge the 32KM or delve into the ultra-distances with the 54KM.
・54KM course wraps around Shige Kogen with spectacular views of local outdoor spots like Mt. Akaishi, Yokoteyama, and Mt. Yakebitai, as well as Lake Onuma, Lake Hasu, Lake Biwa, and more!
・Race on soft trails of fresh leaves and witness Japan’s autumn foliage with brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow! *depends on mother nature
・After finishing, relax and heal your body at the nearby Kumano-yu Onsen! * individuals with tattoos are not permitted
・Route will be carefully checked before the race to ensure the safety of participants and after the race for clean-up – participants are welcome to join the race organizer in sweeping the course.

About Shiga Kogen
Famous for its ski resorts and outdoor activities, Shiga Kogen (or Shiga Highlands) is a mountainous area in the heart of Nagano Prefecture. Once host to several events during the 1998 Nagano Olympics and currently home to the Japanese snow monkeys, the area is best known as a winter wonderland. However, Shiga Kogen and the surrounding areas can be enjoyed regardless of seasons throughout the year and outdoor activities include hiking, cycling, and trail running.
