Winter Golf: Tee Time in Hokkaido
(from Dec 23 '17 to Mar 4 '18)
Did you know that there are approximately 2,400 golf courses around Japan? The northern parts of the country, especially Hokkaido are home to some of the most scenic golf courses in the nation.
However, golf courses in the north are closed for extended periods of time as a consequence of the generous amounts of snow that blanket the region during the winter months .
In a bid to utilize these golf courses year-round and take advantage of the brisk weather, Golf Digest Online (GDO) have brought the casual sport of winter golf to Hokkaido for its third year!
At the Golf 5 Country Bibai Course, winter golf is wildly popular among golfers from near and afar. And with a variety of snow activities also available, a winter golf outing at Bibai is not just for golfers but a fun outing for all!
After playing a round or two of winter golf, warm yourself with a pipin' hot bowl of tonjiru (a pork-based, miso flavored soup) made with vegetables harvested from nearby farms.
Whether you live in Hokkaido or are visiting, why not try winter golf and experience a unique activity in the snow?
Winter golf season at Golf 5 Country Bibai Course is from December 23, 2017 to March 4, 2018
A winter sport concept with origins in France, shortened rounds of golf are played on packed snow and/or artificial turf. Colorful neon balls are utilized and putting cups are wider than normal at 20CM or 7 inches.
