Samurai Sports would not happen without the men and women who keep fit and challenge themselves! In Snapshots, we ask a few questions to the men and women who excel and explore outside their comfort zones, in Japan and abroad.
How would you introduce yourself?
My name is Matthew and I'm from the UK. I have lived in Japan for the past 14 years working in HR and recruiting. I took up running about 8 years ago as a stress release. Recently, I've started running in more race events and am in the midst of trying to increase my monthly mileage to around 200-250KM.
How do you pursue an active lifestyle?
Being at a Japanese company, it can sometimes be difficult to find time to be active. I find that I have to organize my schedule and manage my time well in order to keep on top of things. I always carry a sports kit in my bag (with both running and swimming gear) so that I can head straight to the Palace, gym, pool, or park closest to my office or clients.
Tell us about a fitness or sports-related item/gear/equipment that you love.
I love to run in my Nike Zooms for middle and long distances. I also really like the Adidas Climacool apparel for running in the unbearable summer heat in Japan. My favourite item is my new run belt which allows me to keep my phone, keys, and spare water accessible without hindering my running.
