Kay: Young, Fit, and Ambitious in Tokyo
Samurai Sports would not happen without the men and women who keep fit and challenge themselves! In Snapshots, we ask a few questions to those who excel and explore outside their comfort zones, in Japan and abroad.
How would you introduce yourself?
My name is Kay and I'm a 21 year old from Tokyo. I lived in the US for two years when I was in college. After graduating college, I obtained my Pilates and yoga instructor licenses in Las Vegas. Currently, I am working as a fitness instructor teaching Pilates and yoga at a gym in central Tokyo. In addition, I provide private training, support, and advice to those who wish to change their bodies and learn healthy habits.
How do you pursue an active lifestyle?
I pursue an active lifestyle based on three pursuits. The first part is work, which I believe gives me a sense of purpose in life. Another part is relaxation for when I'm meeting my friends, going to the beauty salon, and being kind to myself. The third part is exercise - you'll notice that I always have fitness apparel with me! I try to make productive use of small pockets of time to get things done and I like being busy.
Tell us about a fitness or sports-related item/gear/equipment that you love.
I think that therapy bands are necessary to Pilates exercises. Band Therapy Pilates is especially good for recovery among people who may have one or more injuries. They are also beneficial in improving performance in daily training. One of the best parts about therapy bands are their size - they're really small and are easy to carry anywhere.
