One of our riders went to Okinawa for the Great Earth Ishigakijima Iriomotejima 170KM Ride and shared some amazing photos with us...we simply had to share!
Ishigaki (Ishigakijima, or Ishigaki Island) is part of the Yaeyama Islands in Okinawa, which are the southernmost inhabited islands of Japan. It isn't a particularly large island, but with a population of roughly 49,000, Ishigaki is the most densely populated of the Yaeyama Islands. Coral reefs surround the island and with hot summers/warm winters, Ishigaki is a perfect getaway for those seeking sunshine and warmth. Ishigaki is easily accessible by ferry from Naha, or from mainland Japan by plane. (Source: Wikipedia)
Iriomote (Iriomotejima or Iriomote Island) is the largest of the Yaeyama Islands in Okinawa - and the second largest in Okinawa Prefecture after Okinawa Island itself. Located about 25KM west of Ishigaki, Iriomote is a bigger island but largely undeveloped. With only about 2,500 residents, there is no airstrip and just a single coastal road that connects the island. Iriomote is known for its mangroves, dense jungle, and beaches, including a beach with sand shaped like tiny stars. (Source: Wikipedia)
